*Newsletter – Summer 2013*
**
It might not quite feel like it, but Summer is here and it’s time for
another issue of the Mornington newsletter!
As ever, we’d like to begin by thanking all our friends for turning out to
support us at our last concert, “Dreams of Springtime”, in March in the
beautiful surrounds of City Hall, Dublin.
Since then, quite a lot has happened. First up, we were very privileged to
welcome the amazing Dr. Róisín Blunnie as our guest conductor for this
term, while our musical director Dr. Orla Flangan takes maternity leave.
Having recently completed her PhD, Róisín brings to the choir her own
wealth of experience and sense of musical style. Then came the wonderful
news of the birth of Hugh Michael on the 20th of April! We are so happy
for Orla and Arthur and wish them all the very best.
On the 13th of May we travelled to the Navan Choral Festival, where under
Róisín’s guidance, we achieved first place in both the Sacred Music
category and then in the Choir of the Year final!
And now for news of our upcoming concerts in Dublin and Galway.....

For our next concert, the Mornington Singers and conductor Róisín Blunnie
present *De Profundis*, a programme of dramatic sacred music by composers
from the 16th to the 21st century. As the concert title suggests, the tone
is dark; themes of grief, fear, pain, anger, betrayal and reproach
dominate, though occasional moments of tranquillity and tenderness provide
some relief.
